Crowns are often indicated for fractured teeth, teeth with severely damaged structure due to decay or large, compromised fillings and teeth that undergo root canal therapy.
There are several crown types for patients to choose from.

  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal crown is the most used crown thanks to its strength and durability. It is normally indicated for the back teeth.
  • All-ceramic crown is considered a cosmetic choice due to its natural appearance. Lack of metal allows light to transmit and reflect much like natural tooth structure, thus is used in the esthetic zone (front teeth). E-max is the most popular choice as a metal-free crown these days.
  • All-metal crown is used when appearance is not an issue for patients. It can be gold crown or alloy crown.
Bruxzir is the newest non-metal crown. It is extremely wear-resitant due to its monolithic (zirconia) coping. It is prescribed for patients who clench and grind their teeth excessively.
