Scaling and root planing procedure (deep cleaning) is indicated when peridontitis (gum disease) is present. Periodontal disease can vary from mild stage to advanced stage. Depending on the degree of bone loss and attachment loss, treatment may range from scaling and root planing (SRP) to combined SRP with administration of local antibiotics or/and surgical procedures.
